1 Corinthians 16:13-24 Closing Exhortations
Paul gives some pretty stern words in this closing portion, but he smothers them in love. He impresses upon them their individual responsibility to take action and mature in the faith. This is a good word for the Church today.
1 Corinthians 15:50-58 Steadfast, Immovable, Always Working
Having settled at the doctrine of the resurrection, Paul charges the Church to “be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord …” This is the cornerstone for the sermon today.
1 Corinthians 15:35-49 The Resurrection Body
One of the most mysterious passages in the Bible, in my opinion. Mysterious, not because of what Paul says, but because of what he doesn’t say.
1 Corinthians 15:29-34 Baptism for the Dead?
Continuing his arguments for the resurrection, Paul now uses an argument from personal experience. The “baptism for the dead” isn’t the most important idea in this passage.
1 Corinthians 15:20-28 The Theology of the Resurrection
We have considered an historical and a logical argument for the fact of the resurrection of Jesus. Now, Paul gives us his theological argument in support of the resurrection. The key is this: our destiny is tied to His destiny.
1 Corinthians 15:12-19 The Resurrection
Having established the fact of the resurrection, Paul now builds a logical argument in favor of the resurrection of Jesus. Some in the church disbelieving the doctrine of the resurrection.
1 Corinthians 15:1-11 The Gospel
Paul begins his last discourse with this topic. Some in the church had begun to question the historicity of the resurrection of Jesus. Paul defends the gospel message, and the resurrection in this chapter.
1 Corinthians 14:26-40 Propriety in Worship
Closing out the discussion related to Spiritual Gifts in the Church, Paul instructs the church in Corinth how to govern their public worship service. This is good instruction for every church; we would do well to pay attention.
1 Corinthians 14:1-25 Gifts of Prophecy and Tongues
This is one of the most contested passages in the New Testament. Are these gifts temporary or permanent? What is the proper understanding of the gifts in themselves? Let’s look at these questions.
1 Corinthians 13:8-13 Faith, Hope & Love
After extolling the qualities of Love, Paul now describes the primacy of Faith, Hope & Love; the greatest of these is Love.
