1 John 5:13-21 Summary of the Book
In this passage, the Apostle John summarizes the whole of this epistle. He lists four items we know for sure, and states unequivocally that Jesus the Messiah is God. This episode is a little longer, but I wanted to finish this study.
1 John 5:6-12 The Essence of Salvation
The Apostle John combats false teaching regarding the Person of Jesus the Messiah and gives definition to the only basis for eternal salvation.
1 John 5:1-5 Love Expressed in Obedience
Jesus said “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). John heard Jesus say this, and now a generation later, he is passing on the same principle. And love is best shown when it is expressed to other believers.
1 John 4:13-21 Perfecting the Love of God
Can you imagine the love of God being “perfected” in you? What does that even mean? Let’s explore this together in the passage before us.
1 John 4:7-12 The Necessary Life Of The Christian
Having identified the necessary confession of Jesus as come in the flesh, now John teaches us how to identify true Christians. This is reminiscent of the teaching of our Lord in the upper room on the night before He was Crucified.
1 John 4:1-6 Who Are the False Prophets & False Teachers
The Apostle John teaches us how to identify false teachers and false apostles. This is a good study about the true, biblical Jesus Christ, and the necessary confession of His Person.
1 John 3:19-24 God Is Greater Than Your Heart
Those who love God struggle and are often heart-broken over the sin in their lives. This section of scripture gives hope to the hopeless, comfort to the weary. We can walk in victory, God enables us and He expects us to be content.
1 John 3:11-18 Love Is The Telltale Sign
Jesus said “By this all men will know you that are my disciples, if you have love one for another” (Jn 13:35). In this passage John expands on this principle.
1 John 3:4-10 To Sin Or Not To Sin
Taken out of context this passage has been the source of squabbling among both scholars and “lay” persons for centuries. How are we to understand John’s statements in this passage? While the Greek grammar helps, the context helps more.
1 John 2:26-3:3 An Abiding Anointing
John uses the Greek word that is translated “abiding” more than any other New Testament writer. As in the previous two lessons, we see that he gets this from Jesus. We go again to the Upper Room Discourse to hear Jesus talk about abiding in Him.
