2 Samuel 21:1-22 Fireside Chats With David

The remaining chapters of 2 Samuel are a collection of historical events during the reign of King David with non-specific chronological arrangement. Names and places are often confusing so we will proceed with caution.

2 Samuel 19:1-20:26 The Return of David

After the death of Absalom, David returns to Jerusalem. This turns into quite a political quagmire. King David has to navigate some delicate situations, which are in some measure self-inflicted.

2 Samuel 17:15-18:33 Absalom’s War & Demise

The fight is on! The arrogant, boastful son is ready to take on his father, the King. The family dynamics are noteworthy, and the actual battle is somewhat anti-climatic. Let’s look at it.

2 Samuel 16:15-17:14 Absalom Enters Jerusalem

David has left the city, and Absalom comes in as supposedly the new King. There are political shenanigans galore. We finish the discussion with a conversation about God ordaining certain events. You won’t want to miss this one.

2 Samuel 13:1-39 A Most Tragic Story

The story in chapter 13 is one of the saddest in all the Scriptures. Worse, it is being played out countless times yet today all over the world. David and three of his children descend to the lowest depths caused by human depravity.

2 Samuel 11-12 David, Bathsheba, and Uriah

Such a tragic story. A vivid reminder of the basal sin nature of man, even a man after God’s heart. But it is also one of the greatest demonstrations of God’s redeeming grace.

2 Samuel 9 & 10 The Kindness & The Severity of David

In chapter 9 David shows kindness to the surviving son of Jonathan. In chapter 10 we see the severity of David when another King shows himself a fool to some messengers David sent to him on an errand of mercy.
