Ephesians 5:21-23 Family Structure
I understand Ephesians 5:21 as a transition verse into the next section. Paul outlines the biblical structure for a rightly functioning family. This is much debated in the Church today between factions having differing positions with the proper role of women in the family and church.
Ephesians 5:15-21 Look Carefully At Your Life
Preparing for the Lord’s Table Paul urged the church with this statement,”Let a person examine himself, thtn, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.” (1 Co 11:28) He does essentially the same here, “Look carefully then how you walk, …” We examine this today.
Ephesians 4:30-5:14 Discern What Is Pleasing To The Lord
Ephesians 4:25-32 The “Let Not’s” and the “Get Rid Of’s”
Being a disciple of Jesus means reforming our habits in order to reform our character. In this section Paul describes several traits we are to ‘let not’ be our calling card, and other traits we are to ‘get rid of’ altogether. Then he lists what we are to replace them with.
Ephesians 4:17-24 Don’t Live Like Them
Paul has established the essential doctrine of “The Faith”; he has discussed the unity of the church and that there is one God. Now he proceeds to teach us the difference between who we were and who we should be in our behavior.
Ephesians 4:4-7 All For One, And One For All
The makeup of the Church, the Body of Christ is such that we all are one. There is one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father, who is over all.
Ephesians 4:1-3 Worthy of The Calling
Now that Paul has established a doctrinal foundation for the Church, he begins the practical exhortation. “Walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called.” This turns out to be the hard part — living to please God.
Ephesians 3:14-21 The Love of Christ , The Fullness ofGod
Paul resumes his argument from verse 1, “For this reason …”. He details his prayer for the saints in Ephesus and closes with a doxology. This is a prayer we would do well to pray for each other.
Ephesians 3:8-13 Unsearchable Riches, Eternal Purpose
Paul hints at, and we discuss the unsearchable riches of Christ and the eternal purpose of God realized in Christ Jesus our Lord. This is amazing!
Ephesians 3:1-7 The Mystery Of The Messiah
Paul begins to reveal the “mystery of Christ” (ESV). This was ‘concealed in the Old Testament, revealed in the New Testament.’ This is a hard mystery, doctrine given the interface between the Jewish and Gentile population of the church.
